All First Years are assigned a Sixth Year Buddy who acts as a mentor to them during the year. A group of seventeen Sixth Years volunteer their time and energy to help First Years to settle in. Each Sixth Year meets a small group of five First Years once a week, during class time, until November. After the mid-term break and thereafter they meet at break and lunch-time. If the First Year has any difficulties or worries during the year he can go to his Buddy, who will help him sort it out. The sixth year Buddies also organise events for first years during the year. These include soccer leagues, music classes, céilí and quizzes.
