Prizewinners for World Book Day.

19-March-24

Prizewinners for World Book Day receive their prizes.

First Year students Joe Fahy and Fionn Wallace won Easter eggs for fantastic responses to the question, ‘Why should we celebrate World Book Day in the CBS?’ Joe said quite rightly that reading and owning a book is a right that should be extended to every child, regardless of socio-economic reasons and that World Book Day vouchers make books more affordable.

Fionn Wallace agreed with Catherine Kennedy’s argument that World Book Day champions books and reading and helps to change the misconception that reading is not cool.

Guess who’s behind the book First and second prize winners Fergal Davis and Igor Zamfir who were the first to submit correct entries drawn in the ‘Guess Who’s Behind the Book?’ quiz on display in the foyer of the school for World Book Day. This competition proved more difficult than it first seemed with Ms. Ryan, Ms. Farrell & Mr. Brislane proving hard to identify! Students enjoyed the activity while it also highlighted to them how embedded reading is in the daily life of many of our staff.

As part of World Book Day Ms. Alison Collins and Ms. Emily Kinsella’s 2nd Year English class were asked to write a book blurb on one of their favourite reads. Well done to the three winners with 1st prize going to Alex Dillon, 2nd prize to Charlie Talbot and 3rd prize for best effort going to Konstantin Ignatjevs.
