The students at St Joseph’s CBS are offered the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities and are encouraged to develop a healthy balance between their academic work and other activities.
Students at the CBS participate competitively in a number of team sports – Hurling, Soccer, Rugby, Gaelic Football, Badminton and Athletics. There is a very strong commitment from the teaching staff to the support and development of our extra-curricular programme and they regularly give their time freely to their students in this regard. Numerous teams have been very successful in their age group, in Tipperary, Munster and All-Ireland Competitions.
Beyond competitive sport, we also offer a wide range of activities for our students to participate in –
Quizzes, Basketball, Table Tennis, Computer Club, Golf, Music, Debating & Public Speaking, Drama, Creative Writing, Lunchtime Games Club, Tennis, Sports Days, Soccer Leagues, Chess & Draughts, Strength & Conditioning, Film Club, Sailing and Swimming.
Two fully qualified PE Teachers implement a comprehensive Physical Education Programme for all students and PE is an integral and compulsory part of the school’s curriculum for all school years. Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability at all times. The Junior Cycle programme incorporates a variety of field and net games, athletics, gymnastics and swimming. The Senior Cycle programme makes use of the facilities available in the school and many of the local amenities to provide the students with an understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and equips them with skills for the future.
