Denim Day fundraiser for Dementia.

On Thursday the 16th of March, staff and students wore denim to raise awareness of the work of the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland and to show their support for people afflicted by this illness. The school raised €950 from the event. A presentation was made to Miss Ireland, Niamh Kennedy who has chosen to support and publicise the work of the organisation during her tenure. Dean Walsh, president of the Students’ Council, presented the cheque to Niamh and to Christine McKenna, Waterman’s Lodge Day Care and Respite Centre, on behalf of the school.

On Wednesday 1st March, Gearoid Sheedy represented the Senior Debating team of CBS Nenagh in the Semi-Final of the prestigious UCC Philosophy Society Munster Schools Debating Championship. Gearoid Sheedy opposed the motion that ‘this House should support the Voluntary Human Extinction movement’. Adjudicators were extremely impressed by the quality of the speeches that evening, remarking that the debate was of third-level standard with thought-provoking, stimulating arguments being presented by both sides of the House. Gearoid was ably supported by fellow team-mates who had reached the Quarter-Final stages. The students are looking forward to their next foray in the Secondary Schools debating scene! Well done to all involved. We are extremely proud of the entire team for their unstinting efforts and commitment to this extra-curricular pursuit.  Go n’eiri an t’adh libh!
